Many people have and or want pets but sometimes you don't know what pet is best for you. Before picking a pet you should always see how an animal matches your lifestyle and your budget. If you are a parent looking to get a pet for your children keep in mind that younger kids will need your help taking care of it and older kids may be busy with school and work and might need your help as well. Keep in mind budget, time you have to spend with your pet, and the experience you have.
Fish-
The most common fish to keep as pets are goldfish and betta fish. Both are very easy to keep as pets and very inexpensive. Keep in mind that if you want multiple fish some are very territorial and can't have multiple fish in one tank because they will fight each other.
Cats-
Most cats are very easy going but some don't like being around people, that said, if you have a younger kid that might want to play with it be sure that the cat you want is good with people and likes to socialize. Cats are fairly easy to take care of but will cost a decent amount of money to have with visits to the vet, food, a litter box (if your cat is indoor), and toys to entertain your cat along with treats.
Dogs-
Dogs are one of the most common pets to keep because they are energetic and not to mention very adorable but some dogs will fit you better than others, for example, if you have young children you would want to make sure you get a gentle dog that is good with kids. Another thing to think about when getting a dog is how much exercise it needs. Most need lots of exercise and attention. Once you get a dog it may need to be trained as well. Dogs are on the expensive side of pets that you can get with vet visits, food, treats, leshes, toys, dog beds, crates, and other supplies.
Birds-
Many people like the idea of having a bird as a pet because they seem easy to take care of. Birds can be amazing pets if cared for correctly, however, many people don't know exactly how to take care of a bird so it is very important to do some research before getting one. Birds need a big enough cage for them, a healthy diet, a clean cage, toys that are safe for it, and fresh food and water. Along with caring for a bird some birds don't like a lot of human contact and can get irritated by it. Birds can be expensive to care for depending on the bird.
Rabbits-
We all love rabbits with their fluffy tails and button noses but many rabbits are not cared for correctly. Many people don't know how hard having a bunny actually is. Rabbits can grow up to 20 pound so they need lots of room to hop about. Bunnies also need a good diet or they can have lots of stomach issues. Another thing people don't realize when having a rabbit is that keeping them outside can be dangerous in some circumstances. If kept outside they need to be in a safe place that predators can't get into and must be moved inside a heated shed or your home during bad weather and winter months. Rabbits should have a run to get exercise and play. Rabbits are expensive to take care of with a cage, run, toys, food, bedding, and a vet that specializes in them.
Taking care of a pet can be very difficult and costly so be sure to do research before getting one and finding out you can't care for it. If you end up not being able to care for your pet anymore you can take it to an animal shelter. Never release your domesticated animals into the wild because they don't have the instincts that wild animals do and wouldn't be able to survive. It also should be said that you should never take a wild animal in as a pet because it can be dangerous for you, your other pets, and the animal. Many animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and other animals need to go to a veterinarian that specializes in them. Before getting an animal make sure you fully research them and know they will have a safe home with you.
Have fun and see you soon!
