Halloween is a fun way to run around all night and get free candy. These tips will help you get the most out of this Halloween.
Step One - Getting Ready
You can NOT Go Trick or treating without a costume. A costume is a must when you are trick or treating. In addition to your costume, make sure you have plenty of layers on if you live in a cold area. Having an extra pair of leggings under your costume will help you a lot out in chilly weather.
Also, you are going to need something to hold candy in. Any bag will work, but try to choose a bigger one with a sturdy handle, to hold more candy in. Bonus points if your candy bag matches your costume!
Step Two - Going Out
The last thing you want to do during Halloween is get lost. If you are younger, make sure you stay with your parents or other trusted adult. You also shouldn't go out alone if you don't know the area well. If you are going out on your own, make sure you have a phone on you at all times in case of emergencies.
If you do end up getting lost, you can always use your phone to call someone to pick you up or look at a map. If you end up in a situation where you can't use your phone for whatever reason, you can ask to borrow someone else's. Use the phone to call someone. If the person you are borrowing a phone from offers to drive you home, politely decline.
Step Three - Getting to the House
When you choose a house to trick-or-treat at, chose one with the outside lights on. The lights on outside indicate that they are handing out candy. Make sure not to bother someone that has their outside lights off.
When you are going to the front door, make sure you don't step on any grass or plants. Always walk up to a house using the driveway, to avoid killing the grass by stepping on it.
Step Four - Getting the Candy
When you get to the door, either knock or ring the doorbell (the doorbell is usually more fun, but doesn't always work). When they come to the door, say "Trick Or Treat!" to them. At that point, they will probably show you a bowl of candy. Only take one, unless they say you can take more than that. After you get the candy, make sure to say thank you and happy Halloween.
Sometimes, you will find a house with the light on and a bowl of candy sitting on the porch. If you do see candy out in the front of the house, do not ring the doorbell. Take one piece of candy from the bowl (unless there is a sign that says you can take more) and leave.
Step Five - Eating the Candy
When you get back home, you have a massive amount of candy that is begging to be eaten. Before you start, check a few things.
First, make sure the candy looks ok. Any candy that has a normal wrapper and a name on it is fine, but if you come across a piece of candy that is in a clear or blank wrapper, throw it away. Also, if the candy wrapper has any rips or holes in it before you open it, throw that away too. Make sure you don't eat any unwrapped candy either.
When you eat your candy, don't eat it all at once. It may seem like a good idea now, but it won't seem like such a good decision an hour from now when your stomach feels like it is about to explode.
Follow these tips, and you will have a fun, safe Halloween.
