I know this is a little harder than making a PB&J, but just trust us for a sec. it will be worth it.
At bamboo, our goal is to help save pandas, the giant pandas in particular. With less than 2,000 giant pandas left as of 2014, they are in danger of going extinct. If that isn’t sad enough, more than 15,000 other species are close to extinction such as sea turtles, polar bears, tigers, spider monkeys, lemurs, hunchback whales, and turtles.
It is up to us to save these animals. The lives and homes of them are as important as ours. Now you probably don't have the time or money to go on an expedition to China and save them that way, but if you do these simple things, we are one step closer to saving the earth.
1. Poaching
You probably haven't been panda hunting recently, but if you are a poacher, please stop.
Poaching is the main reason most of these animals are going extinct. There isn't much we can do about poachers, other than this; don't buy anything made of ivory, or a rug made of panda skin. Only fish or hunt with a legal permit, and encourage others to do the same.
2. Trees
Trees are the homes and food sources of many animals. Lots of animals are going extinct due to trees being taken from forests. There are a few ways you can stop this from happening.
Firstly, you can try to buy fewer products made of wood. If and when you use paper (because we all have to use paper) make sure to recycle it. Also, don't buy any big things made of wood. We know sometimes you need to buy wood, but try to avoid it if you can.
Another simple thing you can do to save trees is changing your browser. Crazy, but it works. Internet browsers, like google and yahoo, get a little bit of money when you search for something. if you go to Ecosa, that small portion of the money they get from your search will go to planting trees. For (about) every 45 searches you make, one tree will be planted.
To change your browser to Ecosa, go to ecosia.org and follow the on-screen instructions.
The third way to save trees (and animals) is to stop wildfires. We aren't asking you to become a firefighter in the amazon rainforest, but we are asking you to not start them. You can have your fire to roast marshmallows over, but don't start a fire when it is really dry out. Whenever you start a fire, always keep a bucket of water or two nearby for emergencies. Also, keep matches out of the reach of young children. Playtime + fire = a disaster waiting to happen.
3. Donate
If you are more of a lazy person, you can donate. All you need to do is give up your morning Starbucks coffee once a week for a slightly cheaper brew, and write down the amount of money you saved. After you save 5-10 dollars, donate the money to WWF. at WWF, they will use that money to save a bunch of endangered animals.
4. #bambooproject
We want you to help save the world in other ways too. Take pictures of yourself picking up trash or biking to work instead of driving, or doing other environmentally friendly things and post them to social media with #bambooproject. With a little luck, you may inspire someone else to save the world too.
Thank you so much for reading this and saving the pandas with us, and see you soon.
